Quite bad for arena because it's a huge tempo loss for 7 mana, but there's hope in constructed when you mix it up with other cards to build up a situation to drop Spider Lair.

This card is just bad overall from the cost to the results of the outcome. Especially when Sanctuary Pet can do what Cavern Spinner and Poisonous spider can do for only three Magika. To put this into perspective, if it cost seven to play Spider Lair, one turn later to then summon a Cavern Spinner with two cost to then wait another turn to summon a Poisonous spider that is also two cost to then wait one more turn to attack the creature that is by now unshackled. Then, assuming you didn't increase your manna throughout the game, that means it would have taken you ten turns and eleven Magika to even make it work in any particular situation. This is what you call bad. Its just bad. Maybe if this was a three or two cost support it would be more worth it but as I've already said its just bad.

the spiders themselves don't cost you magicka in case you misunderstood that. One of the three spiders is played into a random lane each turn automatically.
It may be not a great card, but playing against that can be very annoying. It creates a spider each turn, often stopping your strongest attack, at least when the opponent plays it. And it creates a little creature every turn that can be a nice betray targets.

And in a topdecking situation these little spiders can be the difference. Of course when playing the lair you have quite a tempo loss to suffer, but if it is a longer game I think it is worth it.
