Back during the Grand Melee, I went 10-2 and finished 30th overall. I played a Tempo Assassin list, and several people asked me to share the list that I ran. Unfortunately, I left the next day to travel for work. One thing led to another, and here I am posting the list much later than I wanted to. This list is going to be the exact list that I ran for the Grand Melee. With that being said, the meta has shifted to be less mid-range and more token based so I will mention some great cards to include for dealing with the shift.

The main reason that I refer to this list as a tempo list (as opposed to mid-range) is that it features plenty of cards that are high tempo plays, but aren't necessarily the "best play on curve" in every situation. Cards like Leaflurker, Shearpoint Dragon, and Shrieking Harpy don't have the best stats for their cost. They also aren't typically something that you want to play on an empty board. Sure, sometimes you do it out of necessity, but they are all clearly under performing in those cases. Yet these cards are fantastic when played in a reactionary way, because they deny your opponent while advancing your own board state. They essentially let you snowball an advantage.

In order to continue to press your advantage with tempo plays, you have to have some board presence to begin with. At the time, mid-range decks were all the rage so I wanted to make sure that I got an early presence. This meant I was running fifteen cards that cost two Magicka, though I don't really count Shrieking Harpy as a real two drop. It's not the sort of thing that I want to play on an empty board, so I would often mulligan them if I had no other two drops. The best opener is Goblin Skulk if you have it. The flexibility that a Curse gives you is great.

So once you get a lead and protect it with your tempo oriented cards, you need to have a way to finish the game before your opponent can stabilize. The nice thing about Assassin is that it has some of (if not THE) best reach in the game. Cliff Racer, Lightning Bolt, Ancano, Supreme Atromancer, and Tazkad the Packmaster can all close out a game very well.

As I said at the top, this deck was built when the meta was heavily influenced by mid-range decks. Lately, the "go to" aggressive decks have been of the token variety. There are some change you can make to improve your consistency in a "Token Meta." Adding Queen Barenziah and Murkwater Shaman is a great start. The queen lets you stabilize, and the shaman wreaks havoc on token decks if you can protect it. Another good addition is Blacksap Protector for some extra defense, along with the ability to potentially prevent a lethal damage turn. If you make these changes, I recommend removing the Daring Cutpurse cards, along with the cards that let you pseudo-draw. The emphasis on early game isn't as important as being defensive in the token match up, because you can't compete with their ability to flood the board.

What a beautiful job you did here, with all the details! Thank you very much. I started playing this game a week ago, and I'm using mostly an Assassin deck I've built (currently a "version 3.1" of the weak one I posted here). I still don't have enough crystal to forge most of the high value cards here, but... it will come with time.

I'm lacking 2 Mournhold Traitor; 3 Daggerfall Mage; 2 Eldergleam Matron; 2 Cliff Racer; 1 Leaflurker; 3 Supreme Atromancer and the Tazkad the Packmaster.

I'll keep checking your decks, thanks again!

I tried this deck on ladder and I'm gonna say that it's very good for meta
For 10 games score is 7-3, so I think it's okay
I replaced one Supreme with Queen Barenziah and tried to switch Daggerfall Mages with Murkwater Shamans, but I guess that it's a bad idea
I like this deck and I'm gonna try to go in ladder with it
