I plan to create two versions of upgrades for each of the Heroes of Skyrim pre-constructed decks available for purchase with 500 in-game gold.

Mid-Tier Upgrades
Brynjolf's Heist
Alduin's Apocalypse
Aela's Companions
Ancano's Cunning
Paarthurnax's Roar - In Progress

These decks are intended for newer players with a smaller collection. They should allow most players to reach Rank 5 with practice.
• Replace the weakest cards, adding more rares and a handful of epics to improve the deck.
• Keep the flavor of the original pre-constructed deck as much as possible.
• Does NOT include cards from Fall of the Dark Brotherhood.
• Focus deck synergies around the included legendary.
• Max Cost: 1600 incremental Soul Gems

Top-Tier Upgrades
Brynjolf's Heist
Alduin's Apocalypse
Aela's Companions
Ancano's Cunning
Paarthurnax's Roar - In Progress

These decks closely resemble many of the top-tier decks in the meta. They should allow most players to reach Rank 1 or even legend with practice.
• Replace additional cards, including more epics and a handful of legendaries to improve the deck.
• Develop tighter synergies between the cards, even if this means losing some of the flavor of the original deck.
• May include cards from Fall of the Dark Brotherhood.
• Includes the original legendary, but it might not be the strongest card in the deck.
• Max Cost: 3200 incremental Soul Gems

Summary of Changes vs. Mid-Tier Upgrade
• Replaced 12 cards
• Incremental Cost: *3200 - 4000 Soul Gems (assuming a free card and depending on ownership of Emperor's Blade - see note below)
Note: My inspiration for this deck came from a Dragon Spellsword deck that TurquoiseLink was playing at high legend at the end of September 2017.

Card Replacements

-3 Midnight Snack
+3 Dark Guardian (*Free)

While we lose the Midnight Snack’s synergy with Dragons, Dark Guardian is too good to pass up, especially because it synergizes with East Empire Crafter.

-2 Preserver of the Root
+2 Emperor’s Blade (*Free – 800 Soul Gems)

Emperor’s Blade is expected to play a huge role in the middle game for Midrange to Control Spellsword decks. While it overlaps with Hive Defender, that is a good thing – you would play 6 Hive Defenders if you could.

-3 Snowhawk Detachment
+3 Gristlehide Dreugh (*Free)

Snowhawk Detachment is less valuable as we reduce the number of creatures with Guard in the deck. We replace it with a cheap card that has exactly the same stats (3 power/5 health), but provides a very important role in our deck. Spellsword is notoriously bad at drawing cards compared to the other classes, so we turn to a Neutral card to hopefully help us keep our hand full. This card synergizes well with East Empire Crafter.

-2 Karthspire Scourge
+2 Mantikora (800 Soul Gems)

While this decreases the total number of dragons in the deck, it considerably strengthens the ability of the deck to react defensively in the late game. This change alone moves the deck considerably down the path from Midrange to Control.

-2 Ironscale Dragon
+2 Skeletal Dragon (2400 Soul Gems)

This is a huge upgrade at the top end of the curve for dragons.

* Cards assumed to be Free
3x Dark Guardian – included in Fall of the Dark Brotherhood adventure
2x Emperor’s Blade – Awarded for September ranked play performance. If you reached rank 9 in Sept, you will have one of these. If you reached rank 5 you will have earned a second copy. (Reaching Rank 1 provides a third copy.)
3x Gristlehide Dreugh – included in Fall of the Dark Brotherhood adventure

Additional replacements in the future as you obtain the cards:

-3 Tree Minder
+3 Hist Grove

Both cards give 1 extra max magicka for the same cost, but Hist Grove provides better value overall in a long game.

-1 Devour
+1 Edict of Azura

Edict of Azura is better removal.

-3 Revered Guardian
+3 Undying Dragon

Pricey, but a clear upgrade for a Control deck.

Note: To be honest, the deck would be even stronger by replacing even more of the Dragon synergy with additional ramp and late game threats. That would include replacing Alduin with Miraak and swapping out Revered Guardian for Pure-Blood Elder. But that takes the deck in an entirely different direction and I wanted to leave in Alduin and the Dragon synergy - after all, it started as an Alduin-centered deck.
