Built to be adaptable, mid mage lacks the depth of quality 2s and 3s found in mid sorcerer but has enough reactive tools to recover positions efficiently. The deck pivots quite well and can turn races quickly with the help of haafingar, dawnstar healer, and 19 prophecies. While not containing as many tempo tools as mid assassin, its 8 different 6 health guards give this blue midrange deck significant ways to more permanently lock up the board and allow it to play a controlling gameplan against more aggresive decks. This board lock down coupled with its surprisingly large number of ways to gain card advantage make it very effective in this role. In other matchups it plays the role of a resilient snowballing aggresive deck with a mix of beefy and ward wearing threats that are hard to deal with as quickly as they can be deployed and a decent amount of reach to push through. Haafingar and golden saint help turn winning positions into insurmountable defecits for the deck's opponents and the guard creatures work double duty, protecting the deck's more brittle threats. It is important to note however that the deck rarely does fall binarily into one role or another. Very often the deck will have moments where it becomes correct to start racing an aggresive deck using its dawnstar healers and maintaining card parity is essential to success over the course of a game against a slower more controlling opponent. Recognizing how your gameplan must change as a result of your and your opponents draws is essential. (This list was tested extensively in high legend ladder and has been used in tournament play with high win rates thus far)

Very nice list. Any suggestions on replacements for Haafingar Marauder? Or should the deck not be played without them?

I'm guessing you are asking as a budget consideration? Haafingar gives the deck some snowball potential to help close out games from an even or slightly favored position so I would recommend things which can perform a similar role as a replacement. The 3rd golden saint is the best place to start. While legendary so also not budget the black dragon is a solid option if you have her simply as a resilient well costed body that wants to hit face. They don't perform the same role on curve but the 2nd or 3rd clockwork apostle could be used to help you punch through and close since you won't have the mid-game power that Haafingar typically gives you. At the end of the day the deck will be better with Haafingars but still totally useable and capable of being played to very high legend by a strong pilot with the changes I suggested.
