Hi all,

So this is the deck I used to reach a high-point of Rank 11 in this weekend’s Morrowind Gauntlet (although I’ve currently decayed to #26, so please don’t impulse-craft all these Legendaries because I can’t guarantee it’ll work well as the Gauntlet “meta” shifts). Proof my my ranking can be found here.

The whole idea is of typical Crusader fashion: take control of the Field Lane early on, and then snowball with enough Rally synergies and vital tech cards that your opponent can never really recover tempo (especially since Houses of Morrowind was an expansion exceptionally light on Prophecy cards).

Here are some tips off the top of my head on how to pilot the deck successfully, starting with cheapest cards first (sorry for the noob formatting, this is my first deck ever posted on here):

Ashlanders are a valid turn-1 play because of all the weapons in the deck (their ability is only a panic-button to steal tempo from opposing Rally tokens and help punch through Guards, especially when buffed).

ALWAYS remember that Corprus Disease removes all Rally buffs from your creature BEFORE applying the attack buff; I included it as a tech card because I don’t currently own Vivec (a GREAT card in this Gauntlet), but even I can admit that I embarrassed myself with moronic combat math a few times due to the pre-buff Silence ability.

Dagoth Dagger has Breakthrough, so don’t forget you might be accidentally punching an extra Rune if you trade it against a weak creature (which isn’t too bad considering the aforementioned scarcity of Prophecies in HoM, but still).

Jiub and Scion are both monster turn-1 plays if you have Gavels/Hirelings to help them trade 2-for-1, but even if you have to drop them without extra buffs in your hand, it’s probably not the end of the world since you’ll recover tempo later with some Rally buffs or whatever.

Pilgrim is a solid 2-drop regardless of the Exalt; generally you don’t want to Drain so much that your opponent never breaks your first Rune though (i.e. your draw is disproportionately slowed down): lategame the life-saving Drain goes without saying.

Warclaw Mercenary and Khuul Lawkeepers are pretty self-explanatory, just solid openers (especially with the Ring, in which case you might want to mulligan hard for them depending on the pace of the matchup).

DO NOT WASTE HLAALU SHARPSHOOTERS ON PETTY SHITE. They are your only real “comeback” mechanism, and oftentimes the difference between punching through a key Guard/Vivec for lethal damage or just buckling completely to a tempo swing. In the Dagoth matchup especially, keep them handy for those fucking Hands and Magisters, because Ward is a pain in the nuts to overcome with this particular deck.

Canton Smith and Battlespear are pretty cut-and-dry; use them to bolster your weak opening tokens and maintain healthy tempo! smile-8389251

I sometimes went out of my way to buff Arms Master a shitload for surprise Charging lethals of 6-8 damage, but don’t let the fantasy hijack your brain to the point where you start making clearly bad plays just to buff him more and more; OTKs can only be used if you’re not dead already.

Contrastingly, NEVER try stacking Ash Berserker more than a single +1/+1 if there are better Guards/Charges/tokens in your hand instead. He is obviously a huge Silence target and also does absolutely nothing on the turn he’s played (unlike tokens, which can still proc cheap Plots), and so you’re better off investing in better creatures (if you have them, obviously) while just using him as a cycle farm. (Exceptions apply, ignore this paragraph if you’re planning to use him for securing lethal, etc. etc.)

Grand Inquisitor is great even at 4 mana for sniping opposing tokens/Khuul Lawkeepers or just cleaning up pesky Ald Velothi Assassins in the Purple matchup (Almalexia is a BITCH to face in this mode, bloody Christ). Don’t be afraid to gamble an extra Rally or two landing on him in your hand if it grants access to punching through a key opposing Guard or something; he’s pretty premium removal in this Gauntlet even without being Exalted.

The last two Legendaries are basically different as night & day: Balmora is almost an insta-keep because of how much more effective he makes your early Rallies (trust me, boards under his influence start pumping steroids up the ass), but there is NO reason whatsoever to keep Drillmaster in the mulligan, because she’ll just soak up excessive Rallies instead of handing them to more proactive creatures, keep a card dead in your hand until turn 6, and do absolutely nothing even once she’s played anyway).

Speaking of Skar, she’s basically a pseudo-Triumphant Jarl in this mode because buffs on your Berserkers aren’t guaranteed, and duplicating key creatures in your hand is kind of like drawing an extra one (although not exactly; remember that any “copies” spawned are only a SINGLE +1/+1 above the vanilla statline, and not in addition to whatever buffs were already placed on that specific creature by previous Rallies.

Please remember all of these tips are obviously subject to change, and were only relevant against the meta I faced against in the opening hours of the Gauntlet. I have no idea what’s going on in there now, since I stopped playing as soon as my placement numbers came in for the leaderboard.

Good luck everybody, and try not to die too fast out there ♥

Edit: I forgot to mention that Corprus Disease is only in the deck because I currently don’t own Vivec. Go ahead and make the substitution if you do happen to own him, that guy can win games singlehandedly!
