Got frustrated after the tournament so i went for a ladder session. I ended up at #1 with a 23-2 score.

Control Dagoth isn't popular right now but here's my try to make it a thing again.
Technically it's undefeated in this week-end tournament since it was perma-Banned.

It's the first deck that i post here so feel free to ask any kind of questions and to give advices. I think the list can be refined but it definitly does the job.

Have a good day and see you on the ladder,

DangerZoneee

Thank you for the feedback ! And yes, it's the kind of match-up you're looking for with this list

nice deck:

1. Whats the plan vs Ebonheart rage?
2. What item are you usually searching for with crucible
3. Can you explain what you are looking for from mulligans vs Aggro and vs Control
4. vs control do you break runes and try to beat down or wait for rage etc?

Thank you !

1 - ebonheart obviously isn't a great match-up, but its possible i think it's a 45-55%. I only go for beatdown plan if i have a hand that allows it (a creature heavy hand or with lot of reach). Since you have creature like hand of dagoth or telvos or if you have the start vigilant ancestor into dres the beatdown plan is definitly possible with this deck. Other way if you have a slower hand is to thirst them, if you dont breack their runes ebonheart can just lose the game alone if they draw badly where you're more consistent since you goal is just to put enough board to go for a 2 turn lethal. The best way to ensure your 2 turn lethal is to mentor's ring a warded creature so your entire board is warded. And of course dont play into rage in general.

2 - control match-ups fork, aggro match up crossbow. Since the deck does not have a million drain creatures you also have STN to give drain to your entire board with mentor's ring. You can consider going for the second one if you have the first one in hand and you're stabilizing.

3 - Vs aggro you mulligan for lethal creature, skaven pyromancer and wardcrafter. you can keep gambit if you have a lethal creature but i dont keep crossbow unless my hand is already good. Daggerfall and vigilant ancestor are also keepable especially with the ring. And of course the 1 cost spells are keepable. Aggro is what you're happy to meet with this list.
Vs control it depends of the match up. You have to identify your key card in the particular match up. For example vs ebon or telvanni the key is tempo so try to have this creature heavy tempo start. Vs tribunal it's more value oriented so mulligan for your draw and value cards. For example against tribunal a rapid shot on your own daggerfall (to make sure you have the tome) is a much better turn 4 than a ring hand of dagoth. Basically keep rapid shot, thieves guild, daggerfall and blacksmith. Vigilant and dres are also keepable.

4 - Rage is almost never the plan. Its not as strong as in guildsworn where you have breakthrough (from the item or the assault) when you want. That's why there are only 2. But dont get me wrong, it does the job aswell here. Just dont see it as your win condition except against conscription.
unless i have really defensive hand yes i go for beatdown. The idea is that as long as you have board, you threaten lethal. You have silence, dres against shackle, lethal ping and of course rage. So your opponent has to remove your board or he isn't safe with guards and stuff. That's where you want to be.
If you have this defensive hand, let them break your runes and try to thirst them. Then go for the offensive when you feel like it (usualy when you have 2 turn lethal).

Hope im helpfull :) Have fun with the list !

Thanks man thats awesome breakdown information. I just went 9-1 with it to hit legend! lost to a super greedy control Guildsworn deck (wrecked aggro) ;-)

Glad to hear that ! :)
Thanks for sharing the deck, Danger!

I really like controlly mid/middy control decks and this might be one of my favourites so far. It is a really fun deck! Went 7-0 the first time I tried it and climbed from 5th to 4th rank :)

Laaneth to tutor Rage etc - or is that too greedy?

Well the issue is if you add laaneth you have to take out one of the late game bombs, and they are much more valuable than laaneth.
What you're trying to do with your top curve here is to either bring lethal or threaten lethal with a huge board with a single card (sotha sil, vigilant giant)
Laaneth fit a deck with a slower strategy on their top curve. But I guess if you really want, replace an eclipse. Laaneth is a bit slower and does not allow the tricky turns baronnes allows you to have since you can't ramp but you do have key cards to get so it's not a crazy choice.

Laaneth can definitely work, I'm not overly impressed with Aspect of Hircine so that's a replacement you can make, or Baroness as suggested.

Also I don't like the blacksmiths. Find that I usually don't urgently need an item and prefer to just draw into it, but sometimes do need more early game and they are pretty bad for holding off aggro.
Blacksmith are mostly here to tutor fork and mentor's ring against control. Dagoth control in general is struggling in control mirror and in my opinion fork save the day in control match up. Blacksmith are indeed a bit slow to aggro but the deck i so good to aggro that i dont mind it. Also they allow you to play STN. I think without them STN should be out, it's not good enough if you cant have it when you want. That's just personal taste though im open to suggestions

About hircine i cant help it i love the card. It's close but i would replace tazkad over hircine
