MIDRANGE ORC BATTLEMAGE:

c8xw6uo-8017848

Midrange is the way to go for in this meta right now.
So, I tried to build a deck that somehow can counter them.
Mostly it’s Midrange Warrior, Midrange Sorcerer and Giant Battlemage (Giant Condoms).
All of them can immediately take over the field lane and have some explosive outcomes
with cards like Daggerfall Mage, Ward Crafter, Belligerent Giant, Bone Colossus, Windkeep Spellsword aso….

So, the idea was to be faster and more flexible on switching lanes and take over one of them.
Besides that, I wanted a deck which doesn’t run out of cards immediately like prophecy battlemage.
(Otherwise Control Mage and Control Scout will have an easy time by simply outvalue this deck).

Core parts of this list are:
– orc-package like in Midrange Warrior
– blue early-game as in Midrange Sorcerer and Giant Battlemage
– fast finishers like the ones in aggro decks
– card-draw similar to those midrange decks (Triumphant Jarl for example)

So, the conclusion was battlemage to fit all those parts together.
…sounds crazy but it actually works. ????

I was experimenting with Skilled Blacksmith because of six items and three more with Daggerfall Mage but he was too slow, and his effect wasn’t needed too often.
=> edit: i’m testing them again atm. instead of 2 Orc Clan Shaman and 1 Circle Initiate.

Ancano was in the original list but there are so much cards that have a similar effect and are cheaper, so he is simply not needed. (Lightning Bolt, Sentinel Battlemace, Underworld Vigilante and Wood Orc Headhunter). On turn 8, where he should get played, Lightning Bolt and Sentinel Battlemace are still in your hand because of Triumphant Jarl and Tome of Alteration. It’s often the same for turn 9 with Underworld Vigilante and Wood Orc Headhunter + one of the above mentioned cards.

Some facts about this list:

Withered Hand Cultist and Lightning Bolt together can sometimes be a problem but Lightning Bolt is an auto-include and Withered Hand Cultist denies Ice Storms, Drain Vitalities, Dawns Wraths and
Piercing Javelins so I included both. (it does not happen too often to have both options at the same time).

See also  Deck List

There are more 4-drops in this list than 3-drops but cards like Lightning Bolt and Sentinel Battlemace often function as finishers so they often get played a few turns later than turn 4.

Some thoughts about other cards in this list:

Orc Clan Shaman:
I don’t think this card is very good, but I like to have more than 10 Orcs in my list to trigger Wood Orc Headhunter constantly. Besides that, he has 3 attack so he only needs to attack 2 times to trigger Circle Initiate. Skilled Blacksmith has only 2 attack and his effect wasn’t needed that often.

Battlerage Orc:
Besides of him being an Orc he is amassing in trading 1- and 2-drops. With an Orc Clan Captain on board from turn 1 or 2 he can even trade cards like Barrow Stalkers favorably. Also, as a finisher equipped with a Sentinel Battlemace is the nuts sometimes.

Steel Scimitar:
Awfully good card to win the field lane on turn 2 or 3 and equipped on a charge creature it works as a finisher too.

Daggerfall Mage and Wardcrafter:
Both very good cards to take over the field lane. Because of these 2 cards this list can play games like midrange decks. Take over one lane and build up value at the same time.

Wood Orc Headhunter, Lightning Bolt, Sentinel Battlemace, Underworld Vigilante:
All of them work as finishers and are often unexpected by the opponent. Because of these cards it is possible to race other midrange decks. Even Midrange Warrior is not that fast.
Underworld Vigilante works as a drain killer in the shadow lane too, while Sentinel Battlemace and Wood Orc Headhunter are perfect cards for trading creatures in the field lane and threaten lethal a turn later.

Triumphant Jarl:

Besides Daggerfall Mage and Wardcrafter Triumphant Jarl is the reason this list can go for longer games too. Control decks like Scout and Mage can often keep up with the early game if they draw good enough so Triumphant Jarl works well as a refiller for your hand.

Garnak and Withered Hand Cultist:
Most control decks loose because of those cards. Both combined is such a disadvantage it’s almost an auto-loss. Important to know is that if those cards get played on the “right” turn instead of “on curve” they often have so much more value. For example, if you play Withered Hand Cultist on turn 3 your opponent has three turns to answer it and then he can play Ice Storm, but not if Withered Hand Cultist gets played on turn 5. Same for Garnak, Dark Adherent, if he gets played on turn 7 your opponent isn’t able to play Dawn’s Wrath, otherwise he has time to answer it till turn 8.

12 Prophecies: (Shrieking Harpie, Lightning Bolt, Morkul Gatekeeper and Circle Initiate)
Because of 12 prophecies it’s possible to turn midrange mirrors around if already lost otherwise. Shrieking Harpie can shackle a creature which threatens lethal while providing 2 more stats on board. Lightning Bolt can kill a lethal threatening creature or just go face if lethal is almost reached. Morkul Gatekeeper can block a creature and buff one of your own.

Candleheath Brawler:
Very good card to trade off 2- and 3-drops and deal the final damage if equipped with an item. Often gets played into the other lane against midrange decks if the race is on. Your lane deals damage by going face + 2 more because of Candleheath Brawler and he blocks one of your opponent’s creatures to prevent lethal.

Some things to keep an eye on when playing this deck:

If your opponent is down to only a few life points but can answer your creatures on board, keep an Orc in your hand instead of just playing it into the shadow lane so you can play Wood Orc Headhunter immediately. (from time to time I see players who sit on a Wood Orc Headhunter waiting for a second Orc to play him with charge while played 1-2 Orcs just a turn earlier…)
Same for charge creatures and items. If you draw one of them don’t just play it. Wait for the second card and combine them for more (instant) damage.

See also  Deck List

When your opponent plays a drain creature into the shadow lane while you are in the field lane => If you don’t have Earthbone Spinner don’t play the next creature into the shadow lane to hopefully kill it a turn later. Just go on in the field lane. You will generate much more damage in the field lane in a very short amount of time than your opponent can gain life with a drain creature. (If he plays into the shadow lane you have a freeway in the field lane and you will win almost automatically).

It is important to know when to trade and when to go face. This deck normally goes face as soon as possible. But because of creatures like Daggerfall Mage and Wardcrafter trading to your favor is the way to go in the first few turns if your opponent can fight your board from turn 2 on. The right time to stop trading and start to go face is often by turn 4 or 5. This is often the time where a Wood Orc Headhunter or a Candlehearth Brawler comes down to trade a creature and deal face damage. (Because of guard on Candlehearth Brawler you can go face and you will protect other creatures in the same lane).

Another important thing is to know which 2 and 3 drops to keep and which not. For example, Circle Initiate and Orc Clan Captain aren’t as good against Midrange Sorcerer or Midrange Warrior because of Windkeep Spellsword and Barrow Stalker. Daggerfall Mage and Wardcrafter are much better to fight for the field lane. Battlerage Orc for example is very good against green, red and yellow Midrange Decks. He can trade a large range of 2 drops (2/2s) without dying.

Don’t keep Earthbone Spinner for too long! If there isn’t anything on board which needs to be silenced just play him for keeping up the tempo. (just keep him if you know there are guard creatures like Hive Defender or Phalanx Exemplar in your opponents list).

Good for now, have fun testing this list on the ladder!
Maybe I’ll write some more thoughts on this list if you guys are interested. ????

Greetings to you, Bro!

A little playing with your deck I understand that it is the best thing that I had after the orcs on sectarians. A very large percentage of winnings. Has played 14 fights.

Only 3 of them lost. At the same time 2 times by own fault.

Very cool deck! Or just in the morning, the card comes from the distribution of the super or normal. Last night, the dealer constantly gave me cards from the end of the pack. ))))

In general, respect!

Has slightly modified your deck. In essence, this is not fundamentally affected for the time being. There is not enough another couple of cards.

Hey ESDCoordinator !

So you sacrifice the fast part of the deck (charge creatures and orcs) to gain more value (through items). looks quite interesting! wink-2011471
there for you can cut orc clan shamans for skilled blacksmiths. will be better in your deck. other than that i think relentless raiders and triumphant jarls aren’t a good choise anymore because the playstyle of your deck is a bit slower.
in my opinion tome of alteration is better in item based decks with gardener of swords instead of 3 shield breaker.

How does your modification work for you?

With all the above, I have to agree. The deck gives out beautiful and occasionally mind-blowing combos. But now it is much less effective. 14 wins for 11 losses in the ladder on the legend # 297.

Thank you very much for the ideas on setting up. In the other deck used blacksmiths – an excellent card. I’ll try.

An excellent bunch of work Gardener of Swords and Master of Arms, and Daggerfall Mage for crafting Tome of Alteration and Mace of Encumbrance.
In general, honestly, your deck is more effective in the stairs.

I have been playing not so long ago, and I am gradually mastering various combos. Thank you again for the feedback! Let the force be with you!

Ehy man. Will you do some changes with the new HoM cards? I need only 4 cards to craft this deck, but i want to wait, maybe you need to change something.

Hey Koliray!

Difficult to say with only a few hours of the new expansion.
but i don’t think so.
i really like the new red lgendary “sharp-eyed ashkhan” as a three of but i dont think he is better then triumphant jarl in this deck because this list allready has enough value. so, most of the time you will not get enough value out of ashkhan. (ashkhan is better in faster decks where you dont hold cards on turn 6 anymore -> isnt the case in this list)

Thank you so much for your answer!
Could you please create a control deck? I really like controlo-type decks !

Hey dude, I had a lot of fun with your deck but I am having trouble vs decks which use supports (haunted manor, divine fervor + legion trainer) do you think it is worth incorporating Dushnikh Yal Archer and which if so what cards would be the best to switch in favor of them?
